Welcome to my June 2009 journal feature.
My method is thus: Three deviants and ten pieces from other deviants, as well as three specific subjects that I feel like turning my attention to at the time. Some of these deviants are relative unknowns. Others, not so much. It hardly matters to me. What matters to me is these people and their artwork getting the recognition they deserve.
So now, with no further ado, I give you my third journal feature.
Deviant One:
Sadly not a deviant I know terribly well (with the exception of the occasion on/off forum banter regarding various topics, @Prince-Charles is actually far more than a local wit of the Complaints forum, but is also a wonderful artist and costume designer with a very interesting visual style that Ive become very fond of.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Deviant Two:
As a lover of reptiles, I get a thrill out of seeing good reptile photography, and after finding this deviant through the ~Python-Lovers-Club, I was thrilled, not only with *Diablomakos impressive reptile photography, but with her passion for the snakes, frogs, turtles, and tortoises that she works with. The result of that love and devotion is a gallery full of lovely photographs of a diverse range of reptiles and amphibians.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Deviant Three:
This deviant is a good friend of mine, who is a lovely writer, a wonderful artist, and a rather good photographer all rolled into one. Im not sure why I hadnt featured her earlier, but here she is.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Topic One: Saiyuki
Its been a while since Ive indulged in an anime or manga that I liked for a feature topic, so this time I decided to go for Saiyuki, which is one Ive been pretty consistently fond of for several years since it finally got published in the U.S., though I confess to being a tad slack lately.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Topic Two: Alan Rickman
Despite having to struggle to make oneself heard amongst the rabid fangirls and such, I still very much consider myself a fan of Alan Rickmans acting. In this particular selection, there isnt a Snape to be found, as all feature him in different roles, if in any at all.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Topic Three: Lovecraft Mythos
Now this is a topic that I anticipated having fun withIve been reading the stories of H.P. Lovecraft since I was a kid, and then Brian Lumleys Titus Crow series after that, so the Lovecraft Mythos is something close to me. Heres some fun Lovecraftian nonsense.
A Few Choice Pieces:

Ten Featured Deviations
1.
by The initially odd appearance of these highly stylized geometric penguins is offset by the vivid colouring and the intriguing nature of all of the hidden shapes within their penguin-y forms.
2.
by Being a great fan of odd insects, Ive always liked the appearance of weevils, and the fact that the photo was taken as a Monty Python reference amuses me.
3.
by This piece reminds me of the something Im sure Ive seen in a movie before somewhere, but I can never put my finger on it. In either case, the design is very fun to look at, and the simultaneous jagged and smooth edges of the subject are an interesting contrast.
4.
by I confess to being very partial to this piece, as well as the irony that came with it. An artistic nude photographer, *mjranum makes an excellent case for the difficulty that comes with defining obscenity by pointing out that in the nineteenth century, even showing a little ankle or too much neck was considered obscene.
5.
by Usually I stay away from mythological pieces, but this one depicts one of my favourite Greek myths of all time, and in a rather beautiful fashion.
6.
by A very clever play on the title of an equally outstanding work of literature.
7.
by I know it seems a little nonsensical, but really. Who doesnt want a lobster tree?
8.
by One of my favourite Gene Wilder roles in one of my favourite moviesone can only hope its never subjected to a remake.
9.
by This poem is one of my many favourites by this particular writer, both for its sort of wry humor and for the emotions flickering back and forth between the two characters.
10.
by The striking colours and clean lines of this piece are both vivid and eye-catching, making it an awesome cover for an artbook.

When you've been married for twenty five years, and you look at your partner across the breakfast table from you, and you say, "You are so strange"? You've got something there. There's something real there.

"My soul flies erratically on the wings of what I would imagine is a feeble bipolarism. Not the all out kind. I've encountered that and I'm not that. However, something akin to that brushes past me in my quietest hours..."
